Louis Mortamet

Louis Mortamet was born on November 8, 1897 in Lyon and died on August 26, 1956 in Lyon.

He received his secondary education at Ozanam College in Lyon. In 1915 he was mobilized and took part in the Battle of Verdun. After the war he went to the École des Beaux-arts in Paris and worked at the Pontremouli architectural firm, where Georges Curtelin also did an internship. He graduated on November 14, 1923.

Until 1942 he worked with his father, Gabriel Mortamet, who was also an architect.

Through his friend, Georges Curtelin, Mortamet came into contact with Bellot and did an internship at the studio in Wisques. There he helped design the Tourelles monastery, near Montpellier.

He designed two churches based on the principles of Dom Bellot: the Sainte-Famille Church in Villeurbanne, and the Saint-Charles de Serin Church in Lyon.
