Villeurbanne
(Lyon)
The Sainte Famille church in Villeurbanne was built in 1927
by architect Louis Mortamet, in collaboration with his father, Gabriel
Mortamet. The church was home to an Italian-speaking community in Lyon.
The church is built in concrete, according to the principles
of Dom Bellot.
The tower has not been completed, a cylindrical spire should
still be added.
The stained glass in the church is by Georges Décôte (1870-1951)
The concrete construction allows for a large open space. The
pillars are placed far to the side and form a walkway near the outer walls.
The decoration of the church has been sober, it used to be
decorated with painted motifs.
The ceiling has a concrete frame, the surfaces are filled with brick.
